Amtrak lays out details for service in Mobile

According to reports from WALA in Mobile, in a filing with Mobile’s Board of Zoning Adjustment, Amtrak is laying out new details for the planned passenger train service between the Port City and New Orleans with expected stops here on the Mississippi Coast as well.

The Board of Zoning adjustment is planning to take up Amtrak’s request on May 6th, allowing construction of a temporary train station on Water Street next to Cooper Riverside Park.

Amtrak says it plans for trains to leave Mobile at 6:30 each morning and 4:30 each afternoon.

Those trains would return to Mobile at 11 in the morning and at 9 every night.

Amtrak is aiming for an October start date. A total of four stops are planned for the Mississippi Coast.
