Amtrak Downeaster Cancelling Trains Due to Ongoing Power Outages

Multiple trains on the Amtrak Downeaster line between Boston and Portland, Maine, have been canceled amid ongoing power outage issues along the line, Amtrak announced Tuesday.

The trains were canceled due to concerns about uncertainty regarding electricity being restored at grade crossings.

The following trains leaving Boston and heading to Portland have been canceled:

  • Train #681; was scheduled to depart Boston at 9:05 a.m.
  • Train #683; was scheduled to depart Boston at 1:10 p.m.
  • Train #865; was scheduled to depart Boston at 5 p.m.
The following trains leaving Portland and heading to Boston have been canceled:
  • Train #682; was scheduled to depart Portland at 8:20 a.m.
  • Train #684; was scheduled to depart Portland at 11:55 a.m.
Customers who had tickets for these trains are asked to call 1-800-USA-RAIL, press "0" in order to speak with a ticket agent about a refund or changing tickets for another train.

More than 1.2 million customers around New England lost power during the peak of a storm that hit Sunday night and lasted into Monday morning this week. In Maine, Gov. Paul LePage declared a state of emergency, saying most residents should have power back by the end of the week.
