NJ Transit trains to New York resume with major delays

UPDATE: Service to and from New York has resumed with 60-minute delays. Midtown Direct service to New York Penn has also resumed.

New Jersey Transit train service into and out of New York has been temporarily suspended after the Portal Bridge got stuck in the up position Thursday morning.

Midtown Direct trains are being re-routed to Hoboken and NJ Transit buses are accepting train tickets. PATH will accept NJ Transit ticket at Newark Penn, Hoboken and 33rd Street in Manhattan.

It's the second snafu of the day for NJ Transit. During the morning rush, trains were delayed for 20 minutes due to an overhead wire problem at New York Penn Station.

The 108-year-old Portal Bridge over the Hackensack River links Secaucus and Kearny.

On Monday, trains were delayed by 60 minutes after a train broke down in the Hudson River tunnel.

Monday was the first morning that commuters saw schedule changes due to an Amtrak track work project in Penn Station that will continue until May.
