HAMPTON ROADS - VIRGINIA BEACH REALTOR® JOANNE LEROY EARNS HER MILITARY RELOCATION PROFESSIONAL (MRP) CERTIFICATION

When you’re Military, you’re married to the United States of America. It’s your life. I’m fortunate to work with a great team and we have all of the bases covered”
— JoAnne Leroy

HAMPTON ROADS, VIRGINIA, USA, March 22, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- JoAnne Leroy is an enthusiastic, passionate and committed Real Estate agent with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Towne Realty. She is a Navy Veteran of the United States Military.

JoAnne was born in Chicago, Illinois, and graduated from Prospect High School in Campbell, California. She enlisted in the Navy at the age of 18 because “It was something I wanted to do as far as having my education taken care of and a chance for me to live on my own. I wanted to learn a trade and I needed direction.”

JoAnne went to boot camp in Orlando, Florida. She says, “I remember walking down the hallway in the medical hospital in a straight line with the troops. Doctors were on both sides and they had needles. They gave us 3 shots in each arm because if we went overseas, it would prevent us from getting diseases. My arms felt like they were falling off!”

While in boot camp, JoAnne was assigned ‘latrine duty’ which meant that she had to clean the bathrooms with a toothbrush to make them spic and span enough where she could see her face in the reflection. She recalls, “I had to get all four of my wisdom teeth removed at the same time. I was so doped up on codeine for a week and I looked like a chipmunk, but I still had to do my duties. I thought I was going to die during my 3 weeks of boot camp!”

Another thing she needed to do was learn how to swim in case she was at sea on a ship and went overboard. “I was deathly afraid of swimming.” She recalls, “So when the time came to make the jump, I was the last one. The instructor came behind me and said, ‘If you don’t jump, I’m going to push you in.’ Lo and behold, he pushed me in! By the time I finished boot camp, it changed me 360 degrees. I learned discipline and respect and ‘yes, sir; no ma’am.”

JoAnne’s first assignment was at Miramar with the VF-126 fighter squadron as a seaman and a black-shoe aviation storekeeper. She was the supply clerk, working in the storeroom as an administrator. They pulled parts out of the warehouse for the aircraft any time the mechanics needed any kind of supplies.

JoAnne thought she would be onboard a ship, but she changed duty stations and asked to be transferred to Naval Air Station (NAS) Moffett Field, so she could be closer to her family in California. There, she was an administrative clerk, typing up invoices for outside vendors who purchased parts for P-3 Orions for the squadrons who prepared for deployment.

Joanne met her future husband, Robert, at NAS Moffett. He was the Petty Officer in charge of the administration department. They got married and had three children; James, Barbara, and David. JoAnne became a stay at home mom. The family then moved to Chandler, Arizona, where they bought their first home. “Robert got a nice job at Honeywell as the expeditor planner and then became the program planner. He got all the engine, starter and brake parts for the Military and Boeing Aircraft. I worked part time at Michael’s Arts & Crafts and Bank of America while the children went to school.”

JoAnne wanted to go back to school, and the Military paid for it. She attended Mesa Community College, receiving her Associate Degree in Business before going to Arizona State University, changed schools to the University Of Phx where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.

JoAnne’s daughter, Barbara, moved from Arizona to Virginia in 2003 and wanted her parents to move closer to her so they could watch their grandchildren grow up. They bought a house in Virginia Beach and she worked with her daughter at Champion Motors Auto Dealership. Soon, their youngest son David was in Virginia because he was in the Navy, serving on the USS Kidd Destroyer as a fire controlman on the navigation ship.

JoAnne then decided to get into Real Estate. “It was always something I wanted to do.” She says, “I knew so many people who were successful at it, so I got my Real Estate license and I’ve been loving it ever since! I enjoy the flexibility and freedom that it allows. I talk to everyone, young and old, from different cultures and lifestyles. It’s very exciting and every day is different. I also wanted to work with professional people; Attorney’s, Loan Officers and Appraisers.”

The Coastal Virginia - Hampton Roads region continues to draw visitor’s year after year. There's so much to see and do all year round. Twenty-nine miles of Atlantic Oceanfront are accessible on the expanded white sands of Virginia Beach, with its famous paved Boardwalk. In Norfolk, there’s the port of Cruise Norfolk, where large ocean liners dock at Nauticus, The National Maritime Center, you can see the Battleship Wisconsin, with tours given by Navy personnel from the Hampton Roads Naval Museum next door.

JoAnne was thrilled to receive her Military Relocation Professional (MRP) Certification. It was personal for her. “When I was in the Military, I knew what it was like because I went through it. I’m compassionate and I want to help young Military families who want to buy a house. Often, when you’re relocating to a new State, you’ve got 30-day orders. Things must happen fast and smooth. When you’re Military, you’re married to the United States of America. It’s your life. I’m fortunate to work with a great team and we have all of the bases covered.”

The Hampton Roads community has plenty of Military Bases including Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story; Naval Air Station (NAS) Oceana Dam Neck Annex; Naval Air Station (NAS) Oceana and Naval Station Norfolk.
