American Repertory Ballet announces season

American Repertory Ballet (ARB) has announced its 2018-19 season. Embarking on its 55th year, ARB will perform throughout the state under the artistic leadership of Douglas Martin. The new season kicks off with "American Made: Paul Taylor and Other Works" at Rider University on Friday, Sept. 21, and Saturday, Sept. 22. The fall season continues with the lighthearted and romantic comedic ballet, Coppélia, on Friday, Oct. 19, at State Theatre New Jersey in New Brunswick. Culture Crawl on Sept. 22

Culture Crawl is a free one-day arts festival taking place throughout the entire downtown of Rahway from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22. Everything moves indoors if it rains. It will be held in the entire downtown — from City Hall Plaza at Milton and Main streets to the Rahway Train Station Plaza and down Irving and Main to Seminary Avenue. This also includes the Hamilton Stage at 360 Hamilton St. Visit CultureCrawl.org, where you will find the map, the schedule of performances, a full list of films with descriptions, artist locations and rain locations of the artists and more.

Benefit golf tournament on Oct. 4

The Fallone Group is sponsoring a golf tournament to benefit the Court Appointed Special Advocates of Someset, Hunterdon and Warren counties (CASA SHAW) on Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Hillsborough Country Club, 146 Wertsville Road, Hillsborough. Registration and lunch begin at 11:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. The awards ceremony will follow, with light refreshments. Keeping score is optional. Mom & Me Music and Movement Class

The new Frenchtown Community Service and Outreach Initiative (CS&O) is joining forces with the Harvest Family Success Center (FSC) and hosting a FREE Music and Movement class for moms and their pre-kindergarten children called The Enchanted Garden. Expecting moms welcomed as well. The Enchanted Garden will take place from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. every Tuesday at the Frenchtown Presbyterian Church, 20 Fourth St., Frenchtown. Grant funding for Somerset nonprofits

Somerset County Freeholder Brian G. Gallagher has announced the county Cultural & Heritage Commission is accepting grant applications for the 2019 Local Arts Program (LAP) Grant. Guidelines and application forms can be found at http://bit.ly/LAPGrant. The deadline for submissions is 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24. Assmbly Speaker Craig Coughlin will host an event Saturday, Sept. 22, to participate in New Jersey Gleaning Week. All produce collected will be donated to M.C.F.O.O.D.S., a community food bank in Middlesex County. Gleaning is the act of collecting leftover crops from farmers’ fields after being commercially harvested in an effort to reduce waste. Holocaust survivor to speak at college 

Holocaust survivor Sol Lurie, who survived six concentration camps and was rescued from Auschwitz when he was 15 years old, will share his story at 2 p.m. Thursday Sept. 27, in West Hall at Middlesex County College. Born and raised in a small town in Lithuania, Lurie will recount being forced into ghettos with his family and then five different concentration camps before arriving at Auschwitz. He was brought to the United States after the war as an orphan and has dedicated his life to educating the world about the horrors of the Holocaust. The Meta Theatre Company (MTC) will perform concepts from "Dismantling the Racism Machine: A Manual and Toolbox," a book by Dr. Karen Gaffney, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, September 27, at Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC), 118 Lamington Road in the North Branch section of Branchburg. Gaffney is a professor of English at RVCC. The free program will be held in the Paul Robeson Institute in the college’s Evelyn S. Field Library. Charity ice cream sale on Sept. 23

Provenzano invites county residents to take advantage of the next Rx Mission Drive-in/Drop-Off from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Branchburg Township Public Works Garage, 34 Kenbury Road, to safely dispose of unwanted or outdated prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications. Edison’s Fall Family Spectacular returns Saturday

The 26th annual Edison Fall Family Spectacular returns Saturday, Sept. 22, to the Clara Barton section with non-stop music, more than 25 food vendors, over 100 exhibitors and plenty of fun for everyone. The event, hosted by Mayor Thomas Lankey and the Recreation Department, runs from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. along Amboy Avenue, between Jackson to Waltuma avenues. This year’s event features two large stages, at Fourth Street and Sixth Street, offering live music, dance performances and puppet shows. WCTC talk show host Bert Baron will once again be master of ceremonies for the event.
Children can enjoy exhibits, crafts, pony and kiddie rides, face painters and a petting zoo. For adults, there is a beer garden and a professional wrestling ring where WWE wrestlers Fallah Bahh and Kevin McDonald – or “KM,” as he’s known in the ring – will appear.
