Stonington -- Amtrak has informed the town that the railroad crossing at Palmer Street in Pawcatuck will close to through traffic at 6 a.m. on Aug. 17 and tentatively reopen Aug. 31.
The temporary closure is due to construction needed to install upgraded signal and safety equipment.
