A Seth Rogen-conceived TV ‘masterpiece’ is still drawing praise nearly ten years following its original release.

Netflix fans are captivated by the underrated series, which stars Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga and Joe Gilgun, and are also comparing it to Eric Kripke’s The Boys on Amazon Prime.

Rogen, who is primarily known for his roles in comedies like Superbad and Pineapple Express, is also a talented filmmaker, having recently received glowing reviews for his new show The Studio on AppleTV+.

Therefore, it comes as no surprise that fans are now switching on to one of his forgotten gems, Preacher, which first aired on AMC back in 2016 and concluded in 2019 after four seasons.

Preacher is based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's gory 1990s comic book franchise of the same name, much like The Boys, which also came from the mind of Ennis and Darick Robertson.

The Boys fans are bound to enjoy Preacher

The synopsis on Rotten Tomatoes reads: “Fulfilling a promise to his deceased father, one-time outlaw Jesse Custer returns home to West Texas to take over his dad's church.

“Jesse's mission, however, becomes twisted when his body is overcome by a cryptic force that unleashes within him a highly unconventional power.

“Together with hell-raising ex-girlfriend Tulip and Irish vagabond Cassidy, the preacher-in-training embarks on a journey to find God in a world inhabited by holy, hellish, and everything-in-between characters.”

Though not a Netflix original, all four hair-raising seasons sit ready for a marathon on the streaming giant.

On Reddit, fans have been sharing their love for the show, recommending it to Netflix subscribers in need of a new series to binge.
