Lei Pua ‘Ala: Queer Histories of Hawai‘i Presents The Return of Kapaemahu
Wednesdays, April 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Lei Pua ‘Ala’s new hula show The Return of Kapaemahu chronicles the story of four voyagers of dual male and female spirit journeying to bring healing arts from Tahiti to Hawai‘i. Based on an Oscar-nominated short film, the show honors the legacy of sexual diversity in the islands and blends traditional hula with modern music. This free one-hour show will be performed every Wednesday, weather permitting.

Hula’s Catamaran Saturdays

Cash-only beers and Mai Tais are available onboard, and if the weather is right, you can hop into the water to cool off. While walk-ins are available, you can pre-purchase a ticket to secure your spot.

This month’s movie is the musical all-timer Singin’ in the Rain, starring Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor and Debbie Reynolds. Relish in the song and dance of this beloved American classic on the big screen. The lobby opens at 10:30 a.m. with complimentary coffee and pastries, and the film starts at 11:30 a.m. RSVPs are required, and while the event is free, all donations will go to support the Hawai’i Theatre Center.

Volunteer with Gay For Good at the Honolulu Zoo
Saturday, April 12, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 9 p.m.
Volunteer with Gay For Good O‘ahu and assist the Honolulu Zoo with the Rhino Rendezvous gala! Morning or evening shifts are available. Morning volunteers will assist with table and chair setup, while evening volunteers will assist with guiding guests, tending to the silent auction and packing up the event. Evening volunteers must wear all-black and will be provided with light food. Bring water and snacks. Volunteers must sign up before April 5 at 9 a.m.

The Aloha Bears set sail for their monthly outing every second Sunday of the month. Enjoy cocktails at Tapa’s Waikīkī, climb aboard a one-hour catamaran cruise with an open bar, then disembark at Bacchus Waikīkī for lunch and drinks. From 6 to 7 p.m., the festivities begin with a social hour featuring vendors, performers and horror trivia with prizes. Grab a seat for a screening of the Japanese film Love hurts–sometimes literally from 7 to 9 p.m. (be advised that the film is gruesome and violent). Then, from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., hit the dance floor for four consecutive DJ sets.

Volunteer with Gay For Good O‘ahu for an Ocean Friendly Garden Workday. Plant native and climate-friendly species and do some weeding to refresh the garden space at the Surfrider Ocean Friendly Garden, clearing the way for local artists to work on the mural. Bring water, a hat, closed-toe shoes, reef-friendly sunscreen, long sleeves and long pants. Park for free at Kaka‘ako Waterfront Park and walk over to the garden.
