Viking Sunset Studios

WILMINGTON, NC, UNITED STATES, May 12, 2025 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Viking Sunset Studios, the largest enclosed soundstage and green screen studio in the region, proudly announces its return to the prestigious Cannes Film Festival—this time with a slate of international feature films and ambitious productions in tow.

Nestled on an exotic film-oriented black sand beach in Bali within the exclusive film resort Asgård—named after the legendary Viking kingdom—Viking Sunset Studios offers a unique cinematic experience: luxury accommodations, a helipad for international talent, and two oceanfront restaurants overlooking an infinity pool and daily, breathtaking sunsets over the ocean. This paradise has quickly become a creative haven for filmmakers from around the globe.

"We are thrilled to be shooting international movies from the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Germany, and the USA right here on our beachside studio lot," said Bo H. Holmgreen, CEO and Founder of Viking Sunset Studios. “The current film shooting at Viking Sunset Studios, The Ghost and the Gun, is launching in Cannes this year through an exciting collaboration with the London-based producers at FilmsPositive and The Misfits. This World War II epic, set in Malaysia but shot entirely in Bali, is a perfect example of what our studio and location have to offer.”

Mikail Chowdhury of LDNO Productions said "We are thrilled to shoot in Bali, for a film with jungle, colonial, village and river locations, Viking Sunset Studios are uniquely placed to provide all the locations with world class equipment and crew."

Holmgreen continued: “As we were investing in the movie, it dawned on us that 70% of the story is set in a dense Asian jungle—something we are blessed with here in Bali, surrounding our studio. We also have rivers, rice fields, mountains, caves, cliffs, beaches, and of course, our state-of-the-art facilities. With the best film technology like our ARRI camera, international-grade equipment, and a passionate team of nearly 20 professionals, we’re fully equipped to bring global blockbusters to life in Bali.”

In addition to hosting international productions, Viking Sunset Studios is also producing its own slate of bold, original films. Currently in release are:
• The Black Dragon: Karma is the Best Revenge – a gritty mafia action thriller with an explosive and emotional surprise ending;
• Semucim – “Season”, an emotionally charged drama and love story;
• The Precious Coffin – a daring, dialogue-free horror film filled with twists and suspense.

“Taking the chance on a one-and-a-half-hour horror movie with no dialogue shows exactly who we are—and the kind of innovation we bring to the table,” said Holmgreen. “Through our Viking Film Fund, we’ve already helped finance four other Indonesian films, with more on the way. While our focus is on International movies, we also stimulate the local film industry in this the world’s fourth largest population with an average age of 26 – meaning the amount of growing talent here is incredible!”

Viking Sunset Studios continues to attend major festivals such as Cannes, Venice, and Berlin, where excitement about shooting in Bali is growing rapidly. With access to the largest enclosed green screen (12x25m), cutting-edge technology, and unmatched natural backdrops, the studio is on track to become Southeast Asia’s premier destination for high-end film and television production.

Yet beyond the facilities and film technology, it's the stunning beauty of Bali that truly sets Viking Sunset Studios apart. Towering volcanoes frame the horizon, while lush rice terraces cascade through the hillsides like living tapestries. Dense jungles rich with exotic wildlife lie just beyond the studio gates, and ancient temples whisper stories of centuries past. The dramatic black sand beach, kissed by rolling waves and glowing sunsets, provides a cinematic atmosphere unmatched anywhere else in the world.

Whether capturing a dramatic jungle sequence, a romantic beachside moment, or a sweeping aerial shot over rice fields and rivers, filmmakers in Bali find themselves immersed in natural splendor. It’s not just a location— it’s a living, breathing canvas of inspiration.

Mr. Holmgreen added, “Bali is not only beautiful. It is transformative. With every shoot, every scene, and every story told, Viking Sunset Studios proves that Bali is more than a paradise—it is the new frontier for global cinema, and we welcome all serious film makers to join us and get inspired”.
